Our Story
Devengor Network was founded by Joel Vengo, an emerging African leader shaped by first-hand experience with the challenges facing the continent. Growing up and later working across different systems, he witnessed both Africa's immense potential and the persistent failures that prevent that potential from translating into lasting progress.
What stood out was not a lack of talent, intelligence, or aspiration. It was a recurring deficit of leadership rooted in responsibility—leadership that serves the public good with integrity, accountability, and long-term vision. Too often, the narrative focused on blaming others or resigning to the status quo, rather than taking responsibility and doing the harder work of addressing issues from within.
Through years of study, professional practice, and exposure to global leadership models, one insight became clear: Africa's transformation depends on the quality of its leaders. Sustainable progress requires leaders who understand power as a responsibility, not a privilege—leaders equipped to navigate complexity, resist short-term incentives, and act in service of people and institutions.
Devengor Network was created in response to this conviction. The organization exists to invest deliberately in emerging African leaders, providing formation that combines values, practical skills, mentorship, and community accountability, so they are prepared not only to lead, but to lead responsibly and effectively.
While the idea of Devengor Network began with one individual, fulfilling its mission was never intended to be a solitary effort. Enacting meaningful change requires a collective commitment from those who share this conviction—individuals willing to carry responsibility and act together.
